Oldest Backgammon Set Unearthed

26th of January 2007

In the legendary Burnt City the world's oldest backgammon set has been dug up. In the Sistan-Baluchistan province, in southeastern Iran, sixty pieces have been found beneath the rubble where Iranian archeologists have been pouring over relics of a 5,000-year-old civilization. There is some discussion if this set is indeed older than a previously discovered set from Mesopotamia. Head of the research team is Mansour Sajjadi, who is excited to learn clues to the lifestyle of the people who used to live in the Burnt City in Iran.
