Classic Backgammon Revisited, Second Edition

A lot of folks got a chill up their spine when they saw the film "The Terminator". They watched the robot war against humanity and came to the quick conclusion that this was possible. Of course the type of person who takes this seriously also believes that the original moon landing was a product of a Hollywood studio and that Elvis shot Kennedy. Those folks were not entirely crazy though. If any of them are aware of the bot revolution that is affecting the game of backgammon, they will retire to their bomb shelters, never to be heard from again.

A bot is a computer program that basically plays the game as flawlessly as inhumanly possible. Author Jeremy Paul Bagai uses these bots to analyze and challenge the conventional wisdom that has become entrenched dogma about what exactly constitutes good play.

Fundamentally he takes on 120 problems that have been written about by some of the best backgammon authors, and uses the computer program to explain why everything they have said on the topic is wrong.

A lot of people might not like this book because it challenges the nice little rut they have dug for themselves in terms of playing the game. Those who read this with an open mind will recognize the extreme value that Bagai's data has to offer. Backgammon is based on luck and logical thought; emotion has almost nothing to do with it. There is nothing more coldly logical than a computer program. This gives the silicone based organism a leg up when it comes to the game, and its analysis can immediately impact the quality of your game. This book is worth every cent of the $39.95 that it lists for.
