Winning With the Doubling Cube

Sometimes a book comes out and you wonder why somebody wasted a publisher's advance and part of a tree to print such drivel. This sensation usually occurs after a Kitty Kelly book is released by a publisher. Other times people see a book that has been written and wonder why it took so long. This is exactly what a lot of folks thought when the book Backgammon: Winning with the Doubling Cube came out.

Anybody who has any experience with the game of backgammon knows just how important the doubling cube is to the game. When Gammon Press published this book by Peter Bell, it was the first such book entirely devoted to how somebody should use the doubling cube to improve their play.

The origins of this book are humble enough. In 1995 Peter Bell wrote a series of articles about how to get the most out of the doubling cube, and posted them to rec.games.backgammon. These articles proved to be very popular. Because of the demand from players about more information regarding this aspect of backgammon play, Peter turned his columns into a book that was published in 1997.

Despite the fact that this book is still considered the definitive word on the subject of doubling cube use, it flies under the radar. Very few people have heard of this work, less have bought it. This gives those who have ingested the advice written down by Bell a distinct advantage. They will be working with knowledge that is probably unknown to their opponents.

This book is only available from Gammon Press directly and carries a price tag of $30.00.
