Backgammon Computer Games

Since Backgammon is nearly older than dirt it is considered a "public domain" game. That means no one has to pay anyone to license it, unlike, say, Monopoly. That means there are probably as many different versions of backgammon available in the area of computer video games as there are software engineers. Here is a list of just a few:

Old School

VideoCart 11: Backgammon & Acey-Decuey
Platform: Channel F
Publisher: Fairchild
Developer: Fairchild
Originally released: 1977
One of the very first commercially available "videocart" computer games. It's quite hard to find a copy and a Channel F system to play it on.

APBA Backgammon
Platform:
Intellivision
Publisher: Mattel
Developer: Mattel
Originally Released: 1979
Intellivision. From all accounts, this licensed version of the game was actually pretty hard to beat. The artwork on the box is classic 70's retro.

PC-Based

Hoyle Backgammon & Cribbage

PC (Windows 95+)
Publisher: Sierra Entertainment
Developer: Sierra Entertainment
Originally Released: 1999
This entry in the Hoyle series of video games allows users to practice their skills in Backgammon and Cribbage.
