Freeverse's Mystical Backgammon Board Game
All Mac users out there, if you are looking for a solid computer backgammon game, one of the best in terms of environment, creativity and networking is one from Freeverse Software, a company that offers a healthy list of quality games for the Mac platform. And if you are looking for something different, you found it - this one from Freeverse offer a magical, even mystical flavor to your game.
Called Big Bang Backgammon, this Freeverse.com entry can be purchased separately or in a collection called Big Bang Board Games (which includes Chess, Checkers and others). Big Bang Backgammon (BBB) is a follow up of sorts to Big Bang Chess, which won an Apple (formerly Apple Computer) Design Award in 2004, and incorporates all of the ground-breaking features that made the chess version all the rage: the ability to IM (text or audio chat) with your opponent online as you play, send email invitations to play straight from the game, and network one-to-one with another BBB player on the internet. This signature integration into the Mac OS X's capabilities brings online play to another level, and makes networking with others as easy as it gets.
But the first thing you notice about Big Bang Backgammon, whether you play solo (vs. the Mac) or against other carbon based life forms is the almost Greek or Roman-ish avatars that float opposite you on small clouds - one called Sun and the other Moon (you pick which you want to be). Your opponent talks to you, even sticks out its tongue when you roll doubles and can't bear off the bar because you are blocked. The universe around you is divided in half, one side glowing in Sun-bathed yellow and the other a deep Moon black - and as you play and gain the advantage, your side begins to dominate or fill up more of the universe in the background - a visual cue that you have the upper hand.
Freeverse Software's Big Bang Backgammon is worth adding to your collection, Mac users. There is a 14-launches full demo to download free, so check it out now at http://www.freeverse.com
