The Blitz
In Backgammon a blitz is an aggressive stategy that is meant to close out a player's home board as fast as humanly possible while keeping their opponent on the bar. What makes this strategy effective is the fact that an opponent will have a lot of trouble re-entering from the bar, or finding an avenue of escape. This condition gives the player performing the blitz a distinct advantage.
A good example of this is if the person you are playing against rolls an early 2. With this roll they move one checker from your 1-point to your 3-point. Under these conditions a roll of 5-5 will allow you to play 6/1, 6/1, 8/3, 8/3. This leaves your opponent in a very vulnerable position. Not only they have a pair of checkers stuck on the bar, but half of your inner board is now closed.
This is an aggressive and highly effective strategy. When you find yourself in position to pull this off, never hesitate to pull the trigger on a blitz.
