Backgammon Is Great, But PR Never Hurts

True backgammon lovers have a passion for their game, and it shows. You find them carrying around a travel set with them just about anywhere they travel, or they even buy one to keep in the lunchroom at work for lunch play or on breaks. There are even more extreme examples, but the point we want to make here is that some creative public relations (PR) or banner "cheerleading" is a nice offshoot of that passion - so how about some thought and effort in that direction? Here are a few suggestions:

Wear or make a t-shirt! T-shirts have become one of the most popular and wide-spread "advertising venues" or billboards of our time. We splash just about any message, statement or icon across our chests. And it's cheap to do so (one-color designs) on the low-end so designing one yourself is a great project. We've seen the local bowlers with their team bowling shirts all over our towns, so why not a backgammon version?

Play in a public venue. Indoors or outdoors, setting up a small open, free tournament is a fantastic way to recruit new backgammon lovers. And it's worth the effort, too. Some towns may even have a park that has built-in chess board tables - well, just lay a backgammon board atop them and you are all set. Picnic tables work, too, at parks. Schedule one in a public library (they often have a room that is large enough for meetings, use it for backgammon!) or a school gym.

No matter how you pitch your game, make sure you take advantage of those public service or club/meeting announcements (usually free) in the local newspaper or on the radio.
