Online Backgammon Tournaments: RedWhiteGreen/RWG

The RWG Tournament is a series of double-elimination tournaments with a $25 entry fee run by Hank Youngerman of Birmingham, Alabama. The Red (for RedTop) White (for sheep) and Green (for zilla) tournaments are fun, low-stakes backgammon tournaments designed to promote serious competition in a low-key atmosphere. It is open to all players, and matches may be played on any mutually-acceptable venue.

16 players are in each tournament, and matches range from 17 to 21 points. The entry fee is $25. 100% of the entry fees are returned as prizes. First place receives 55%, second place 30%, third place (loser of losers' bracket final) 15%. There is an optional $25 side pool with 100% return as well. If there are 5 or fewer side pool entries, it is winner-take-all; with 6 or more the side pool is split 70/30 between the top two. The side pool is determined by the round in which the player loses their second match. If fewer than 3 players sign up for the side pool, it is scratched.

In order to play, all a user has to do is open an account with the tournament by sending in money, whether by check, credit card, PayPal or Games Grid Jackpot. The minimum is $25. Once the account is active, the player's name is listed on the signup form. If the player wants to enter, they must go to the signup form and submit it. If the player enters but has an account balance less than the entry fee, they will be notified by the administrator.

Once there are 16 players signed up, the administrator will do the draw, post brackets, and start the tournament. Players can play in more than one tournament at a time. This tournament is not endorsed by or limited to members of the BAA or Zilla clans on the MSN Gaming Zone, nor is it connected in any way with the MSN Gaming Zone, and the Zone has no responsibility of any kind for the tournament or for any prizes.
