Acey Deucey Backgammon
Over time every game picks up variants on a rule or two here or there - mostly home game rules, or house rules, that are often adopted and sometimes evolve into almost entirely new games. In poker, the simplest example is playing with wild cards, but even Backgammon is not immune to the wild card concept, as shown in the popular variant called Acey Deucey.
Acey Deucey Backgammon, very similar in a way to Dutch Backgammon, is hugely popular with US military forces, playing the game at home or abroad. The major difference between Acey Deucey Backgammon and regular gammon is that a throw of a 1 and a 2 together means the player has an "Acey Deucey", and there are special rules that go along with it.
No doubling cube is used, and doubling is not a part of the Acey Deucey game. The major reason for this is the Acey Deucey Move, which works like this: on a roll of a 1 and a 2 together, the player moves as normal (a 1 and then a 2) but then gets an extra move. He is allowed to pick a double from 1 to 6, and then move again. To top that off, he gets another throw, and move. The only thing that can stop the power of an Acey Deucey Move is if the player can't complete the 1 and 2 move initially.
For those willing to try out Acey Deucey Backgammon, one final rule, if playing for money - the loser pays the winner the stake multiplied by the number of pieces left on the board at the end of the game.
